We take soil samples from every site we work on, and encourage the use of five-point sampling in order to achieve the most cost effective and sustainable outcomes.

Soil testing reduces costs and prevents over-engineering

Our unique approach to delivering low cost engineering outcomes involves putting in the extra work up front, to ensure that any unnecessary over-engineering is avoided. We use soil testing on every site, and encourage our clients to do more thorough five-point sampling in order to provide a highly accurate understanding of each individual site.

Identifying soil conditions on site for better design

Site testing allows us to have the clearest possible picture of the soil condition, which enables us to create a precise design that is adapted to the ground on which the structure needs to sit. VHC Engineers values original thinking and tailored design over cookie cutter solutions, which can be more costly - and unsustainable - in the long term.

Using real world data for more accurate results

Designed in-house at VHC Engineers, our LIS database consists of representative soil data sets from the last 15 years. The database has an emphasis on the new growth corridors in Melbourne and Geelong, with data taken from tens of thousands of test site locations.

We have restricted the LIS to the most current 20,000 site addresses tested and soil profiles from about 100,000 test borehole locations. This allows us to optimise the clarity of the information, and to ensure that the LIS data is constantly evolving and remaining relevant to current areas of development. As new data is included, some of the older data is retired to alternative data sets.
